Katsina United on Thursday spanked Akwa United 2-0 in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League Matchday eleven counter decided at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
In their last league game before traveling to Sudan to face Al Hilal in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Playoffs round, Akwa United traveled to Katsina on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with Abia Warriors at home on Sunday.
The hosts wasted no time in drawing a line between themselves and their visitors when striker Martins Usule gave them the lead in the eighth minute. Star attacking midfielder Destiny Ashadi then doubled the advantage in the 34th minute and the goals were enough to end Akwa’s three-match unbeaten run.
Akwa United – without the services of their head coach Abdu Maikaba who traveled with Nigeria’s Under-20 side to Egypt – ended the game with ten men after the injury to midfielder Chigozie Chilekwu late in the game.
Akwa United remain in second spot on the league table in spite of the loss while their victors, Katsina climbed from 13th to sixth position on the log.
Meanwhile, Matchday 15 games in the NPFL earlier scheduled for Sunday April 1, have been moved to Wednesday April 4, 2018. The league organisers; League Management Company confirmed the news on their official Twitter handle stating no specific reason for the shift.
