Nigerian Nationwide League One side, 36 Lion Football Club have stepped up preparations for the commencement of the new league season by announcing the signing of nine new players.
36 Lion, the Nigerian academy which provided Las Palmas attacker Imoh Ezekiel his footballing education will be participating in Nigeria’s third tier league for the second season in a row.
The Lagos-based club will be playing at the Agege Township Stadium when the league gets underway this Thursday, April, 5.
According to team boss Gafar Liameed, the club signed the duo of Quadry Ajala and Ayoade Babatunde from local side Team 360 Football Club, brought in Akeem Wasiu from G12 FC, while Chukwu Chinedu and Chiroma Yazidu joined from Bethel FC and Obazz FC respectively.
Liameed in a chat to www.aclsports.com expressed confidence in the ability of his team to play in the Nigeria National League next season.
“Our aim this season is to secure promotion to the Nigeria National League, win the Lagos FA Cup and go all the way to the Aiteo Cup finals,” said Gafar.
“With the performance of my players during the preseason, we should be able to clinch one of the promotion slots, though it won’t be easy but I believe we can spring surprise.
“It will be double joy for me if we can win the Lagos FA Cup and promotion ticket to the NNL,” added the Lagos FA board member.
The club also continued its tradition of giving youngsters a platform to develop by promoting the quartet of Temidayo Okanlawon, Quadry Liameed, Chidubem Nwosu and Mohamed Tijani graduated from the club’s Under-18 to the main team.
36 Lion are billed to face My People FC in the opening match of this season’s Nationwide League One at the Agege Stadium on Thursday.
