Newly promoted Nigeria Professional Football League side Yobe Desert Stars have shocked many of the league’s followers with eye-catching football artistry mixed with interesting results.
The team coached by former Kano Pillars coach Mohammed Baba Ganaru are currently placed seventh on the NPFL table and have a trip to former Champions Rangers to execute in midweek.
One of the team’s consistent performers is goalkeeper Itodo Akor who will be facing his former employers on Wednesday.
“The only thing that has been keeping us going is hard work and self-belief,” Akor told www.aclsports.com on Monday.
“Our head coach always tells us to take every game to be a final and that has always helped our attitude.”
No goalkeeper in the NPFL has more clean sheets than Itodo Akor this term and the Benue-born shot stopper highlighted his ambitions for the season.
“I have a lot of aims this season. Firstly, I want to be the best goalkeeper this season and I’m also working hard to get a callup to the Under-23 team,” enthused the goalkeeper who already has six clean sheets.
Yobe Desert Stars are one point above midweek opponents Enugu Rangers but they will have to play without their top scorer this season; Chinedu Ohanachom who is carrying a card suspension.
