Super Eagles and Plateau United goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye, says his club side, Plateau United, is ready to right their wrongs ahead of their all-important clash with USM Alger in the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday.
United dropped down to CAF’s second tier competition after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Tunisian side, Etoile du Sahel, in the CAF Champions League.
The NPFL champions take on their Algerian counterparts for a spot in the group stage of the competition, and according to the goalkeeper, his team is ready for the game.
“We are ready,” Ajiboye told aclsports.com in an exclusive interview after their last training in Agege, Lagos. “We need to win very well tomorrow (today) so when we go to Algeria, it will be just a formality match.”
On facing another North African team, Ajiboye says they have been working on their mistakes having ‘learnt lessons’ from their CL defeat in Tunisia.
“The coach has been working in every aspect because what happened to us in Tunisia [against Etoile], we have learnt our lessons. So, this time around, we need to be more careful.”
Asked what he expects from the game against a tricky USM side, the ex-youth international says; “Nothing less than victory by God’s grace. Saturday is a big day for Nigeria and Plateau United, so we need to win.”
The former Nasarawa United star was in brilliant form during his team’s last session on Friday, making a series of saves that impressed the sizeble number of fans who came to watch the side from Jos and cheered every save.
With the game slated for the Agege stadium, the goalkeeper has a message for the fans who will surely show up in their numbers today.
“We appeal to them to support us with everything,” he added. “Normally, this is Nigeria and a Nigerian team, so, they need to support and pray for us.”
This is the final stage of the preliminary rounds, with the winner assured of a place in the lucrative group stage of the competition.
