Nigeria Professional Football League leaders Lobi Stars continued their impressive run on Sunday with a 1-1 draw at Sunshine Stars in Akure.
Only a last minute equaliser by Jide Fatokun denied Lobi the maximum points after Samad Kadiri had scored against his former side in the 89th minute. Sunshine striker Sikiru Alimi had a penalty saved by goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode earlier in the game.
Niger Tornadoes continued their fairy tale run with a 1-0 win over MFM in Minna on Sunday. Abubakar Ndayebo’s 13th minute penalty was all Hamza Abara’s men required to stay in second position on the log.
Now in third position are Kano Pillars who beat Heartland 2-0 at the Sani Abacha stadium. League’s top scorer Junior Lokosa scored both goals for Pillars, one in each half to take his season’s goals tally to sixteen.
On the same points with Pillars are reigning champions Plateau United and 2016 Champions Enugu Rangers. Both teams secured home victories on Sunday.
United edged out Katsina United 1-0 courtesy of Emmanuel Odafe’s second half penalty while Rangers ended a run of draws with a 3-0 thrashing of Wikki Tourists in Enugu. Godwin Aguda, Christian Madu and Kelvin Itoya with Rangers’ goals.
Abia Warriors ended a winless run with a 2-1 win over Rivers United in Umuahia. Arinze Nwangwu and Ndifreke Effiong gave Warriors a commanding 2-0 lead before Malachy Ohawume netted what turned out to be United’s consolatory goal early in the second half.
The other Warriors also recorded a routine win as El-Kanemi beat Nasarawa United 2-0 in Maiduguri. Debutant Michael Ohanu’s second half goal sealed victory for Imama Amapakabo’s side after Antonio Desouza’s early goal.
There were three goalless draws on Sunday.
Former Champions Enyimba were held 0-0 by Akwa United. Goalkeeper Fatau Dauda was sent off late in the first half for the Aba Elephants while Akwa United hit the post late on through Michael Ibe’s effort.
Yobe Desert Stars and Kwara United’s game also ended goalless in Damaturu while Go Round FC will curse their luck after hitting the woodwork three times in their 0-0 draw at home to FC Ifeanyiubah.
