Comets guard Bolaji Emilagba scored 35 points in Comets 93-80 win over Police Baton to hand the Ayo Bakare-led team their first win on Thursday in Lagos.
Prior to Thursday’s game, Comets were 0-3, winless in three games with Emilagba leading the young side to their first win since returning to the premier league this season.
Emilagba added 5 rebounds and 4 assists while Joseph Nelly added a double-double, 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Lagos based side past their city rivals Police Baton.
It was a very close game between the two sides recording 11 lead changes and tied 6 times in the entire game. Comets were on the verge of wrapping it up in regulation time but Police Baton tied it 77-77 stretching the game to overtime.
Both sides were guilty of turnovers, Comets suffered 16 while Baton had 20 and were limited to just 3 points in overtime.
In other games played in the Atlantic Conference, Hoops & Read thrashed Nigeria Customs 87-53 while Anambra Flames beat Oluyole Warriors 73-55 and Kwara Falcons defeated Delta Force 75-63 in Ilorin.
Four players were on double figures for Hoops & Read, Jide Ogunsemoyin 16 points, 7 rebounds; Owen Oriakhi had 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Dike Madina and David Edward had 12 and 11 points respectively.
Customs were poor on shooting, recording 13% from the arc, 3-of-23 and outrebounded by their athletic opponents (29-40). They started poorly with an 11 points deficit at the start of the second quarter (18-7). The gap increased in the third as Hoops & Read had their biggest lead of the game leading with as many as 35 points (70-35).
Ayodele Tolani scored 12 points while Aina Marshall Segun contributed 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists for Customs.
In the Savannah Conference, AHIP Giants lost 67-77 at home to Bauchi Nets while Plateau Peaks could not withstand the fire power of their host, Kano Pillars losing 90-53 in Kano.
