The Federal Ministry of Sports Development has finalised arrangements for the camping of athletes to intensify preparations ahead of the 13th African Games in Ghana.
A top official in the sports ministry told www.aclsports.com that the players are expected to resume camp on 5th February, 2024 in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Bayelsa.
The source said, “The Sports Minister, John Enoh is aware of the efforts of some of the Federation in ensuring their athletes are in top shape ahead of the African Games. The minster has been monitoring the progress of the nation’s Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Handball, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Wrestling teams.
“He met with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach alongside the President of Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engineer Habu Gumel at the ongoing 2024 Youth Winter Olympic Games in South Korea and I am sure discussions are in top gear for the camping of the various Games”.
A total number of 23 sports will participate at the 13th African Games scheduled to hold in Ghana, from 8th to 23rd March, according to the Federal Ministry of Sports.
The sports include: Athletics, Badminton, Cycling, Swimming, Table tennis, Tennis, Triathlon, and Wrestling
Others are: Arm Wrestling, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Chess, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Rugby, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Weightlifting.
Nigeria would also be attending the African Games with three demonstration sports and they are Mixed Martial Arts, Scrabble and Teqball.
