Nigeria’s men basketball national team, D’Tigers will be leaving for China on Tuesday night after camping in Nigeria for a week.
The team is expected to compete in a 4-team tournament starting on August 22 in China before heading to the venue of the 2019 FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup starting on August 31st.
www.aclsports.com reported last weekend on the lack of funds that has affected the team’s travelling plans and logistics following the outcry by some members of the team.
A source close to the team revealed to www.aclsports.com that they are yet to receive any fund from the Sports Ministry.
“It is very sad that till this moment we are yet to get anything from the Ministry of Sports. The NBBF President Engr Musa Kida has found a way to raise some funds for us to travel so we can adequately prepare for the world Cup. He is doing his best to ensure we do well which includes using his personal funds which ought not to be so.”
All 15 players who made it from the second phase of camping alongside head coach Alex Nwora and his three assistants Glynn R. Cyrien, Mfon Kokoete Udofia and Ogoh Odaudu will depart Nigeria via an Emirate airline at 9pm on Tuesday.
The final 12-man roster will be announced after the 4-team tournament in China.
D’Tigers will battle Korea, Argentina and Russia in Group B.
