The Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation (NAWF) has extended invites to 22 athletes to camp ahead of the 13th Africa Games in Ghana, www.aclsports.com reports.
In a list obtained by www.aclsports.com, African champions, Elizabeth Zannu (-55kg); Serah Matthew (-70kg) and Olabisi Oyewusi (-85kg) are topping the list of invited players.
The arm wrestlers consist of 11 men, 11 women and three coaches.
According to Samuel Jackson, President of NAWF; the players are expected to report at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on February 15th.
Jackson said the athletes will be in camp for two weeks in order to make it possible for the best of them to be selected at the end of the camping.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the arm wrestlers to make the country proud in Ghana informing the athletes to expect tough challenges from other African countries.
Jackson said, “All is set for the Arm Wrestlers to resume camp in Abuja ahead of the 13th African Games. I want to assure Nigerians that the athletes are ready to make the country proud. The Federation has been monitoring the athletes before the commencement of the camp by the Federal Ministry of Sports Development and I want to tell you that the athletes are fit.
“I know other African countries are waiting to compete against us at the 13th Africa Games in Ghana but the athletes are up to the task”.
He charged the athletes to give their best while in camp in order to make it possible for the best of them to be selected at the end of the camping.
The 13th African Games is scheduled for 8th to 23rd March, 2024 in Ghana.
