The Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) on Monday said 3 judokas would depart Abuja to represent the country at the 2023 African Judo Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The Championship, which holds from 18th to 19th November, is compulsory for countries seeking to participate in the Olympics qualifying tournament.
www.aclsports.com reports that the judokas consist of three male athletes and would be accompanied by one coach.
The judokas are Micheal Agbo (66kg), Kehinde Aremu (66kg) and Taye Aremu (73kg) while Sule Musa (OLY) is the chief coach.
The Chief Coach, Sule Musa who monitored the training of the athletes since the camping exercise began, expressed optimism that they will deliver in Yaounde and appreciated the Combat Sports Promotions Company for supporting the Federation.
Musa said, “We camped the athletes for three weeks but before then, some of them have participated in National and International Championships enough to put them on the right course. We worked on their weaknesses and they are good to compete.
“They have been properly equipped for the task ahead. They have been taught and motivated. I want to specially thank the founder of Combat Sports Promotions Company, Mykel Eneduwa for sponsoring the team to the African Championship,”, he told www.aclsports.com
The President, Nigeria Judo Federation (NTF), Dr Musa Oshodi charged the athletes to be good ambassadors of the country even as he thanked Combat Sports Promotions Company, support.
“I want to wish the contingent well on their trip to Cameroon and urge them to remain focused to win all the medals available in their weight classes”.
