Kwara United FC’s dependable defender Abiodun Adebayo has told www.aclsports.com that his side’s winning mentality is back after an impressive 1-2 win at El-Kanemi Warriors in midweek.
Second half goals from Jide Fatokun and Godwin Oshagbemi turned the Match Day 9 fixture around for Kabiru Dogo’s Kwara United who had trailed 0-1 at half time to their hosts.
Adebayo who has been a regular feature for the Harmony Warriors this season says the crucial away win is capable of turning their season around as it signals the return of their winning mentality.
“The win is a very important one for us because we’ve not been having good results both home and away since the beginning of the season so going into the second round with an away win will boost the morale and confidence of the team in the second round,” said former Enyimba defender Adebayo to www.aclsports.com
Victory for Kwara United in Wednesday’s emcounter ensured that they stay afloat of the relegation zone at the midway stage of the league with nine points from as many matches.
Coming into this season though, United had their sights set on a top three finish in order to have a chance of fighting for a continental slot. Adebayo, who has rich experience playing continental football says their aspirations remain in tact.
“(Finishing in the top 3) is still very achievable because I think the winning mentality is back in the team now and we still have our double home matches also in the second round so all hope is not lost on that front,” said Adebayo.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is currently observing a mid-season break which is tailored to coincide with the Nigerian national elections. Action is expected to resume on the weekend of March 25.
