Group C. Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea FC
Aside the PSG vs Bayern Munich fixture, this group hosts another tough tie in match day two of the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea at the newly built Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Spain.
There is no doubt both Diego Simeone and Antonio Conte are tactically astute managers who pride themselves on the defensive stability of their respective teams. This explains why both teams have kept 4 clean sheets since the start of the season.
Atletico Madrid have had four wins and three draws in seven games while Chelsea have six wins, one draw and one defeat in eight games.
Atletico have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five matches against Chelsea; with the two draws coming at home and the wins at the Bridge.
In match day one of the UCL, Chelsea defeated Qarabag 6-0 at the Birdge while Atletico got an impressive 0-0 draw away at Roma and would be looking to get off the mark at home in tonight’s fixture.
Qarabag vs Roma
Following their opening day thumping in the hands of Chelsea Qarabag would try to make amends at home tonight but not without first contending with Italian heavyweights, AS Roma who need to make amends for their disappointing opening day draw back in Italy.
Although Roma and Qarabag have never met previously, the team from Azerbaijan have lost one and draw one of their last previous meetings with Italian sides at home. Also, Qarabag have lost just one of their last nine European home matches (W5 D3).
Roma are without a win in seven UCL matches (home and away) since 2015. They have also failed to win any of their last ten away matches in the UCL.
Group D. Sporting CP vs Barcelona
Barcelona and Sporting CP would be looking to build on their match day one wins against Juventus and Olympiacos respectively as both teams face-off in Portugal tonight.
The Portuguese based club have won four of their last five games with Barcelona winning all of their last five matches.
Although, Barcelona defeated Sporting CP home and away the last time both teams met in 2008, they have lost three of their last four UCL away games.
On match day one, tonight’s hosts recorded an unexpected 2-3 away win at Olympiacos while Barcelona avenged last season’s loss to Juventus through a Messi double and a lone goal from Rakitic. The impressive form of both teams makes the fixture an even more interesting one as they face-off tonight in a bid to take charge of group D.
Juventus vs Olympiacos
Last season’s finalists, Juventus host Greek Champions, Olympiacos at the Allianz stadium as both teams look to kick start their UCL campaign having both lost on match day one.
Unlike Juventus who have had a blistering start to the season winning all their 5 league games, Olympiacos have had a tough start with two wins, two draws and one loss.
In the UCL, Juventus are on an unbeaten run of 19 home games with an overall record of six wins, two draws and two defeats against Olympiacos in the Champions League.
Olympiacos have won three of their last four European away games.
That said, there is no doubt that the games most people would be looking forward to are: PSG vs Bayern and Atletico vs Chelsea. What are you score predictions and which other match(es) do you think would give us some nail biting moments?
