As the hour draws nearer when Akwa United face Niger Tornadoes in the 2017 AITEO Cup final, head coach of Akwa United, Abdu Maikaba has told www.aclsports.com of his eagerness and strategy to win the title.
United arrived Lagos on Friday afternoon ahead of the final scheduled for the Agege Stadium on Sunday. Sunday’s game represents the first chance for Maikaba to land a major silverware as a manager and the former Wikki Tourists boss is not willing to let that slip.
“As a coach, I never got this opportunity to win a national cup so I will take it as a lifetime opportunity and I will try to make good use of it,” begun Maikaba to www.aclsports.com
“That is why I give my all to prepare this team to make sure that we left nothing in our preparation so that on Sunday at the end of it, we end up victorious as winners of the first edition of the AITEO Cup,” he added.
United remain favourites to win the title for the second time in three years but they face a Tornadoes side which eliminated two top flight oppositions en route to the final.
The Promise Keepers are the highest scorers in this year’s competition, having amassed a total of 23 goals in their seven matches on the road to Agege. Maikaba is planning to get even more goals on Sunday.
“I believe it is goals that determine winners in any game. We have scored the highest number of goals going into the final and I believe we will continue scoring on Sunday that will give us the trophy,” he concluded.
Sunday’s final will start at 6pm local time at the 4,000 capacity Agege Stadium in Lagos.
