Kastina city will host her first National Badminton tagged “1st Kastina Golden Star National Championship”. In a statement signed by the media officer BFN, Miyen Akiri said the championship will also help improve the ranking of the players.
The President the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih revealed that over 2 million naira is at stake for the tournament which hold November 8th to 11th 2017.
“This is the first National outing of the new Federation Board, we have not had national tournaments’ for some years and this is what players and stakeholders have been yearning for. We will be able to effectively rank our players, after these tournaments”, he said.
As morale booster for female badminton players in the country, Orbih said the Federation decided to give equal cash prizes to both male and female players as a way of promoting gender equality. “We will not encourage discrimination against gender in badminton. This is why the prize money is the same for the male and female category”.
The president said, “Immediately after the Kastina Championship, the first Mutual Benefit Assurance Championship takes off in Lagos between November 15th to 18th”. He added that N2.7 million cash prize is also at stake in the tournament.
