Former Chelsea winger Salomon Kalou believes he could hit the winner against Morocco to hand his national side Ivory Coast ticket to the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.
With their backs against the wall, the Elephants play host to the Atlas Lions on November 11 in Abidjan in a must-win clash that will determine who qualifies to the tournament. Morocco currently top Group C with nine points, one above Ivory Coast, who will be counting on home advantage to surmount 2015 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach Herve Renard and his charges.
However, the Hertha BSC star is hoping for a repeat of his 2013 exploit when his goal qualified the Ivorians to Brazil 2014.
“I scored the goal that qualified Ivory Coast to the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil and I hope to repeat that against Morocco on November 11,” Kalou said.
“When you have tasted two Fifa World Cup tournaments, you want to go for a third and that is the objective of our team.”
The two other members of the group Mali and Gabon have been knocked out of the qualifying.
