After a 16 year absence from continental football, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club (MFM FC) of Lagos in the just concluded season of the NPFL put Lagos on the map once again, as one of the clubs to contest in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
In appreciation of their efforts, the Executive Governor of Lagos state – His excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode hosted the entire team and officials of MFM FC during which he gave them cash gifts and promised them the full support of this government.
“The reception was wonderful and the Governor of Lagos state is a fantastic sport loving individual. We’re very happy he hosted us because it shows he acknowledges our performance in the just concluded NPFL season.” These were the words of Mr Emmanuel Adeyemi, MFM FC Director of football on the reception at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja.
During the Governor’s speech, he assured the team that they would be allowed to use any sporting facility in the state for free and also revealed that work was already underway to ensure that the Agege stadium is ready for CAF inspection by December.
Mr Emmanuel seems not to have any doubts concerning the Governor’s promises saying “All what he said is going to be done; and he’s already working on giving us those things. Last season and the previous one, he gave us Agege stadium free for training and on matchdays. All the sporting facilities in Lagos state, the state government gave us free of charge. We are indeed grateful to Lagos state government and we believe that very soon we will get all the promises.” Adding that the N25m gift for the players and officials shows how wonderful the Governor is and that he really appreciates the team, as they didn’t expect getting such a huge amount.
The Governor promised that an additional N25m would be given for equipment and whatever the team needs to contest on the continent.
When when asked if N25m was enough for CAF Champions League Mr Emmanuel Adeyemi said: “The N25m he gave us is big money but it is for preparations for CAF Champions League and not for the competition itself.”
