Former Greco-Roman Champion, Efionayi Agbanabare is expected to make his return to wrestling at this month’s National Championships in Port Harcourt.
Agbanabare hopes that he will be competing at next year’s Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast championships by winning in his weight category first in Rivers State.
The Edo born wrestler said he’s determined to break into the team and make Nigeria proud at the Commonwealth Games.
“Seven years ago, I won a gold medal for Nigeria, I want to repeat the feat for my country next year”, he said.
He said, “the Governor Wike Challenge Cup is dear to me and I’ll put in my best. Recently, I ended my NIS course and I’m using the knowledge acquired to tutor wrestlers in Edo state”.
Agbanabare is training for the Senior National Championships scheduled to take place from November 23rd to 30th, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin city.
He could not attend the Governor Dickson classics last March hence missing the African Championships.
Agbanabare was Nigeria’s only Greco-Roman gold medalist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India.
