Nigeria’s men senior national team, the Super Eagles will know their group stage opponents at the 2018 African Nation’s Championships (CHAN) when the draws for the final tournament are conducted this Friday.
The biennial competition designed for players plying their trades in their domestic leagues will commence on January 13 and Nigeria, semi-finalists in 2014 will join fifteen other nations in the pot for Friday’s draw at the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
The Organising Committee of the tournament met on Wednesday and approved the procedures for Friday’s draws which include the announcement of Seeds for the draws as well as the confirmation of the duration of the competition.
The Wasps of Rwanda completed the 16-nation lineup over the weekend after edging out Ethiopia on aggregate.
Nigeria have been seeded in Pot 2 of the draws alongside neighbours Cameroon, fellow West Africans Guinea and the Chipolopolo of Zambia. The top seeded teams include hosts Morocco, last tournament’s third placed side, Coted’voire, Angola and 2014 winners, Libya.
Finalists in the last edition, DR Congo and Mali failed to qualify for the fifth edition of the African Nations Championships.
Nigeria defeated Benin Republic 2-1 on aggregate in August to qualify for their third appearance at the Championships which will hold from January 13 to February 4, 2018.
