An eight man delegation of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) arrived Johannesburg for the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships which holds from December 14th to 18th, 2017.

The President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, head coach, Victor Kodei and the Chairman Nigeria Wrestling Referees, Usman Yusuf are the officials in South Africa.

The wrestlers are led by Seven times Africa champion, Blessing Oborududu (Olympian), three times Africa champion, Aminat Adeniyi (Olympian), Kemeasuodei Dressman (Africa champion) and Gofit Winnie (African Champion) in the female category while Soso Tamara is the only male athlete.

Daniel Igali, President Nigeria Wrestling Federation in a chat told aclsports.com that the wrestlers would excel at the championship. “Our wrestlers are in good shape as they will be facing top opposition from the other Commonwealth nations”.

“The National Championships ended few weeks ago and it helped us in selecting athletes. I’m optimistic the athletes will be good ambassadors of the country in South Africa by winning Gold medals”, he said.
“With the level of commitment during the National Championships, I believe the team will bring back medals from the championship”.

He disclosed that seven wrestlers are in Nigeria and yet to secure their flight tickets.
