It was an entertaining game of two halves at the Agege Soccer Temple on Tuesday evening between Heartland FC of Owerri and Remo Stars of Ogun State at the Bet9ja Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 4 tournament.
Heartland began the game like a house on fire with good and incisive short passes from defence to attack but on most occasions, the final pass in the opponent’s box eluded them as they continued to toil despite having a huge chunk of possession.
However, on the two occasions the team from Owerri were able to breach Remo Stars’ defence, goalkeeper James Faith made two point blank saves to keep his team in the game.
Minutes later, it was Remo Stars who almost went ahead against the run of play but goalkeeper Japhet Utodo was on hand to make a double save which denied the Ogun based team.
The second half was a different ball game as Heartland were made to rue their chances and the inability to convert sustained pressure into goal(s). Early pressure from Remo Stars led to a freekick which was guided into the net by a Heartland defender to give Remo Stars the lead.
Just like Heartland FC in the first half, Remo Stars carved out numerous goal scoring opportunities in the second half but were unable to convert as the game ended 1-0 in their favour.
Monday’s results mean that the final game of the tournament on Tuesday will be between Go Round FC and Remo Stars by 4pm; while the third place match – Kwara United FC vs Heartland FC comes up earlier around 2pm
