Commonwealth Silver medallist, Welson Ebikewenimo said he’s not intimidated by the presence of two times Olympian in the 57kg at the African Championships.
Ebikewenimo who is currently camped alongside his team mates at the Alfred Diete Spiff Sports Complex in Port Harcourt said the tables will turn in his country.
“In 2016, Diatta stopped me from going to the Rio Olympic; a place where I long to be after more than 10 years in Wrestling. The upset in Alexandra, Egypt is still fresh in my memory”, he said.
“After my winning streak at the National Championships, my inner mind told me not to be afraid of Adama Diatta even though he’s a tough guy”, the African silver medalist told aclsports.com.
“The training sessions have been wonderful with the Nigeria coaches in camp. He beat in twice last two years at the African Championships (finals) in Morocco and Olympic qualification in Egypt. That won’t repeat itself this year”, the Bayelsa born wrestler said.
In March 2008, Diata won the FILA African Championship, which gave him qualification to the 2008 Summer Olympics. Diatta competed for Senegal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 57 kg division. He was defeated by Yowlys Bonne of Cuba in the first round.
