AFCON 2019: CAF Inspection team impressed by Cameroon

CAF officials who were on an inspection mission to Cameroon between 13 and 20 January this year said they were satisfied with the level of preparation ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by the central African country.

Earlier reports indicated that construction and renovation of infrastructures for the tournament have suffered huge delays, but the inspectors were apparently stunned by the progress made so far, according to the Local Organising Committee (Cocan).

“The inspectors said they were pleasantly surprised by what they saw in terms of preparation in Cameroon,” Cocan said in a statement on Thursday.

“The CAF inspectors arrived in Cameroon with prejudices. People had made them believe that they would see nothing in Cameroon.

“But great was their surprise when they set foot in the stadiums already built and on the construction sites and those under construction. Great was again their surprise when they inspected the hotels.”

The qualifiers for the final tournament will resume in March.

    This has already become a journey of no return. Cameroon already opted in to host the next year AFCON 2019 competition and we all believe the live up to expectation. The African nations cup kicks off next year June 7 to June 30 2019 with 24 teams expected to compete for the final glory. So we the fans want the best stadiums, pitches and massive turn up.

      Hopefully they will surely live up to expectation as you rightly pointed out. I am a Cameroonian and I vividly tell that work is in progress in all the stadiums and will be ready before June.
