The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) in partnership with the Bobsled and Skeleton Federation of Nigeria (BSFN), hosted team Nigeria’s representatives on Saturday afternoon at Sheraton Hotel ahead of this month’s Winter Olympics.
For the first time in Africa and the history of Nigeria, a team of four women – Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere, Akuoma Omeoga and Simidele Adeagbo; would be flying the country’s flag in Bobsled and Skeleton category at the Winter Olympics.
In attendance at the official presentation of the team in Lagos was the NOC Secretary General, Chief Tunde Poopola; President of the Bobsled and Skeleton Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba; Former DG of the National Sports Commission, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria represented by the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Abike Dabiri thanked the the President of the BSFN and everyone who contributed to the success of the team. She thanked the girls for their diligence, dedication and patriotism saying it represents “the true Nigerian spirit.”
She also thanked the sponsors who took it upon themselves to provide support for the ladies, not waiting for or relying on the government. Finally to the girls she said: “no matter what you come back with, gold or no gold, you will be received by Mr President in Abuja.”
Kwese TV who happened to be part of the numerous sponsors of the team and also have the official broadcast rights for the 2018 Winter Olympics were ably represented at the event by their General Manager, Chi Chi Nwoko. Other sponsors represented at the event include Travelstart, KLM, Temple Management and Company, Nigerian Breweries etc.
The Winter Olympics is billed to take place between February 9 to 25, 2018 in Pyeongchang County, South Korea.
