2004 CAF Champions League winners Enyimba will face Republic of Benin side, Energie FC in the first round of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The People’s Elephant were handed a bye from the elimination stage into the first round where they would expect to face either of Energie FC or Guinean Cup champions Hafia.
The Beninoise side won the first leg 1-0 in Cotonou ten days ago and held their hosts 1-1 in the second leg on Tuesday to advance 2-1 on aggregate.
Striker Aboubakar Camara gave hosts Hafia the lead in the tenth minute, finishing first time an Ibrahim Sylla square pass to cancel the 0-1 aggregate deficit in front of a packed September 28 Stadium in Conakry.
Hafia dominated thoroughly but failed to add to the tally with Energie goalkeeper Sheyi Damilola pulling off a number of saves to keep the Guineans at bay.
When it looked as though the tie would go into penalties, the visitors scored on the dot of ninety minutes through Jean Marie Guera. The 21-year old keeping his composure to finish off a brilliant individual move.
Energie FC will host Enyimba in the first leg of their first round tie at the Stade de l’Amitié in Cotonou on the weekend of March 6 with the return leg in Nigeria ten days later.
