Adiele Eriugo relishes first Enyimba goal…

Enyimba Forward, Adiele Eriugo is happy to open his goal account with Enyimba against Remo Stars and hopes to do more in the coming games at the playoffs, www.aclsports.com reports.

The lanky forward was handed a surprise start by coach Finidi George in Enyimba’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Championship playoffs opener and he got the first goal for the People’s People’s Elephant in the entertaining 2-2 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan on Saturday.

The 60th-minute strike was his first ever top-flight goal, and Eriugo, who only got promoted to the Enyimba first team at the beginning of the season, understands the need to push himself for more.

“First of all I must say a big thank you to the coach for trusting me enough to start in such a big game,” Adiele Eriugo began.

“When I was told that I was going to start, I was happy because it is the kind of opportunity that I have been praying for. Playing in such a big game is never easy but as a professional, you have to be ready for the big occasion.

Adiele Eriugo was happy to have got his first goal for the Aba side, but his side’s failure to win made it less special. However, Eriugo hopes to improve on his performance by listening to his coaches.

“I am happy I finally scored my first goal in the NPFL because that has been my prayer since the day I made my debut. I wish we won the game because that would have made it more special for me,” Adiele Eriugo said.

“I have been looking back at the game and my performance, and I know the areas I need to improve. The coaches have also been talking with me and what I can do as a young player is to listen to them because they are my teachers,” the Enyimba forward added.

Adiele Eriugo and Enyimba, in search of their first win at the playoffs, will face Lobi Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan on Monday.
