The President of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Abdullahi Saidu has hailed the performance of the athletes at the just concluded 13th African Games in Ghana.
Nigeria Taekwondo athletes won a total of 6 medals comprising 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze at the Games.
Saidu told www.aclsports.com that the NTF has shifted attention to the forthcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
He revealed that the Federation will leave no stone unturned in supporting Elizabeth Anyanacho in getting the necessary support from the Federal Ministry of Sports Development.
He said, “I feel happy though our target was to get more gold medals but it is a good performance. We were able to make it to the podium and it is a sign that we have lots of opportunities to improve ourselves.
“After the African Games, the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation will shift focus to the Olympic Games. Nigeria qualified one athlete (Elizabeth Anyanacho) and the best thing is to map out plans for her; though her German coach has started with some programs to draw strategic plans to prepare her. Nigeria Taekwondo Federation wants to make it to the podium at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”, he added.
Saidu said programmes for the year will continue as scheduled in order to give opportunities to home grown athletes scattered across the country.
He said, “The NTF has local programmes before the Olympic Games and we shall follow the calendar strictly. I want to thank the Nigeria Taekwondo community for their support in motivating the team at the African Games; with one love and unity Taekwondo will attain greater heights”.
