After a spate of draws in the NPFL Super Six tournament, Sunshine Stars head coach Edith Agoye has told www.aclsports.com that there is no gulf in class among the teams competing at the season-ending competition.
Agoye’s Sunshine Stars have bounced back from their opening day loss to Rivers United by playing out score draws against Bendel Insurance and Remo Stars, teams that were touted to be stronger than them.
In their third game on Wednesday, Sunshine Stars went behind to a solid Remo Stars team courtesy of Samuel Anakwe’s tap-in but Emmanuel Lucky Gyang poked home a corner early in the second half to end the game all square.
“I think there is no gulf in class and gulf in form among the six teams,” said Agoye to www.aclsports.com after the game.
“The are games have been closely fought. We can can see that most of the time what determines the winner or the loser boils down to little details. A little mistake here, a little mistake there, what we’ve seen so far is that there is no gulf in class among the six teams playing in this tournament,” added the Shooting Stars legend.
According to the official table showing the placement of teams in the tournament so far, Agoye’s side are currently second from bottom with two points from three matches and three points adrift of the first placed team.
Agoye accepts that his team are the underdog but happy that they have acquainted themselves well in the tournament so far.
“Among the six sides in this tournament, Sunshine Stars are the underdogs. We are underdogs because this is a new team.
“This is a team that is built for seven months and we’re playing against teams who have been together for about three years, some clubs four years. It’s not always easy.
“We’ve been able to show that we can play and we can compete against any other side in the tournament,” he summed.
Sunshine Stars will face leaders Enyimba International FC in their next game on Friday at 7pm.
