Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa made a goalscoring return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as he scored both goals in Kano Pillars’ 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Musa, 31, rejoined Sai Masu Gida for a third stint after featuring for them between 2009/10 and 2021 just before the visit of Sunshine Stars. In addition, former Super Eagles star Shehu Abdullahi also returned to the Pillars fold for his second stint.
Musa was trusted by Pillars coach Usman Abd’Allah and thrown into the starting line-up for the match day five clash at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, who also missed from the spot, scored in each half to guide Pillars to their second win of the season following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Remo Stars and Abia Warriors.
In Ilorin, 10-man Remo Stars saw their winning streak snapped after a 1-0 defeat to Kwara United. Shola abdulraheem scored the winner in the second half after Faisal Sani’s dismissal.
In Aba, Enyimba were leading Kastina United 3-0 before the game was abandoned due to an issue with the floodlights. Ekene Awazie, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele and Kalu Nweke with the goals as the remaining minutes will be played on Monday morning.
Heartland claimed their first win of the season after a comfortable 2-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in Owerri. Michael Ogbu grabbed a brace for the Naze Millionaires.
Plateau United defeated winless Ikorodu City 1-0 in Jos courtesy of Vincent Temitope’s spectacular goal. Similarly, Rangers beat Abia Warriors 1-0 in the Oriental Derby. Kazeem Ogunleye’s second half free-kick goal decided the contest.
Meanwhile, Ndifreke Effiong came off the bench to score the winner for Rivers United against Akwa United on his return to the NPFL. His goal came after Friday Apollos (Akwa United) had cancelled out Stephen Manyo’s opener for the hosts.
Earlier on Saturday, Shooting Stars lost 1-0 to Lobi Stars, while Bendel Insurance and Elkanemi Warriors played out a 1-1 draw in Benin.
