Martins Usule scored a brilliant late goal as Katsina United continued their fairy tale cup run with a 3-1 defeat of Kwara United in the quarterfinal of the Aiteo Cup at the Agege stadium.

The Changi Boys put three goals past a disappointing Kwara United side, who had a goal chalked off for offside and ultimately failed to reach their round of 16 heights.

Two of Katsina United’s goals came in a dramatic first half, before Usule scored the decisive third in the second minute of added time to seal their passage into the semifinal of the competition.

Destiny Ashadi got Katsina United off to a wonderful start when his excellent long range shot sailed into the Harmony Warriors net to put Katsina 1-0 ahead.

Tasiu Lawal doubled their advantage in added time of the first half, before Segun Alebiosu ensured a dramatic end to the half when he pulled one back for the Bala Abubakar men heading into the break.

The third goal did not arrive until late in the match, and against the run of play. With Kwara United pushing for an equaliser, they left spaces at the back and paid dearly for it.

Usule was put through on goal and the forward kept his composure before selling a dummy to his marker to create space for left footed low drive which found it way into the bottom right of the Kwara goal to make it 3-1 for Katsina.

“It was a marvelous performance,” Usule told aclsports.com moments after the game. “We played as a team and that is what gave us the victory today.”
