Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed the appointment of South African coach Pitso Mosimane as their new manager, reports
www.aclsports.comMosimane, 56, has enjoyed a highly successful time as the head coach of South African side Mamelodi Sundowns and has become synonymous with the ‘Brazilians’ since joining them in 2012.
The tough talking coach who led Sundowns to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title last month (his fifth with the club since 2012) has now joined one of Africa’s most successful clubs on a two-year contract after Al Ahly parted ways with Switzerland coach Rene Weiler.

Weiler’s one year with the Cairo based club has been a largely successful one, with the 47-year old leading them to an unassailable lead on top of the Egyptian Premier League and only on Wednesday night qualified them to the quarter final of the Egyptian Cup; Nigerian striker Junior Ajayi scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over Tersana.
Weiler had also qualified Ahly for the semi-final of the 2019/2020 Total CAF Champions League after defeating Mosimane’s Sundowns 3-1 on aggregate in the quarter final. They will face Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in the semi final this month.
Al Ahly in a statement on Thursday said they parted ways with Weiler because of their inability to meet with his “urgent demands, which were not included in the contract clauses” of the Swiss who lost just three games out of the forty-four (44) that Ahly played under him.
Mosimane will resume full work with the team on Friday along with three assistants he is bringing in from South Africa; an assistant coach, a physical trainer and a performance analyst.
Mosimane’s first match in charge of the Red Devils will be against Arab Contractors in a Premier League game on Sunday. Ahly are eighteen points clear of nearest challengers Zamalek at the summit of the league table.
