Algeria govt to charter 10 special flights for Nigeria clash

Algeria Prime Minister Noureddine Bedoui has revealed plans by his government to convey “as many as possible” supporters of the national team to Cairo, Egypt, for the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match against Nigeria on Sunday.

Supporters will be able to travel from Algerian capital, Algiers (west), Constantine (east) and Ouargla (south), according to Bedoui, who added that the authorities will take care of all expenses, including local transport, accommodation and food.

This is not the first time the Algeria government is sponsoring trips for fans at the ongoing AFCON. Ahead of the quarterfinal game against Ivory Coast, four special flights were chartered.

Below is the history of both teams’ confrontations at the AFCON:

AFCON 1984: Algeria 0-0 Nigeria (group stage)

AFCON 1990: Algeria 5-1 Nigeria (group stage)

AFCON 1990: Algeria 1-0 Nigeria (final)

AFCON 2002: Nigeria 1-0 Algeria (group stage)

AFCON 2010: Nigeria 1-0 Algeria (third place match)
