Algeria have booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after crushing Guinea 3-0 in the Round of 16 at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Sunday.
The Fennecs proved too strong for the Syli National, who struggled to coordinate their play in both halves of the meeting.
Esperance Tunis forward Mohamed Belaili handed Algeria a dream start in the 24th minute when he concluded a solo move inside Guinea’s net (1-0)
The Syli attempted some reactions but their efforts always proved futile as they went for the break trailing by a lone goal.
Algeria returned for the second half with more determination, as they pushed to put the game to bed. Sofiane Feghouli and Ismael Bennacer drove the North Africans’ efforts through the flanks, outpacing Guinea defenders most of the time.
By the 57th minute, captain Riyad Mahrez unleashed a long strike that went past Guinea goalkeeper Ibrahim Kone to power their lead to 2-0.
Mohamed Mady Camara had a couple of chances to make a statement for the Syli but his finishes went off target.
Napoli attacking midfielder Adam Ounas connected a cross in Guinea box and squeezed his effort through two defenders into the back net to seal a 3-0 win for Algeria, who will face Madagascar in the quarterfinals.
