Nigeria clinched two gold medals in handball at the ongoing African Military Games 2024 in Abuja on Thursday.
In the men’s category, Nigeria defeated Ghana with a commanding 28-18 scoreline at the Indoor Sports Hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium, while in the women’s category, Nigeria walked over Ghana to secure the gold.
Defence Shooters’ head coach, Emeka Nnamani, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance, highlighting the tactical approach they adopted against the Ghanaian team.
Speaking to www.aclsports.com Nnamani said, “We concentrated on tactical play because the Ghanaians are very physical. We knew we had to outsmart them and maintain discipline throughout the game.”
He also took the opportunity to thank the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for his unwavering support.
“I want to sincerely thank General Christopher Musa for ensuring that the teams received the necessary support, including the long camping exercises that played a crucial role in our success,” Nnamani said.
The coach further emphasized the importance of continuity in the team’s preparation.
He said, “It would be a joy for the Armed Forces team to remain together and participate in various handball tournaments, as this consistency can only make us stronger in future competitions.”
With their two gold medals in handball, Nigeria has made a strong statement at the African Military Games, with hopes of further success in the coming days.
