Niger United defeated De Defenders 34 to 28 goals to record their second consecutive win at the ongoing 2023 Ardova Handball Premier League in Lagos.
In their first match of the final phase, Niger United beat Correction Boys 30 to 22 goals. The Minna team were the better side and made their dominance count with the win.
Niger United were solid defensively and converted most of their chances in style. A repeat performance against other teams would go a long way in claiming the title after a long hiatus.
Coach Yekini Adebayo told www.aclsports.com that his team still needed to work harder in spite of the win, adding that they still needed to address some recurring problems.
“We still need to work harder because a team that wants to make a statement in the league must ensure it does not concede goals anyhow.
“We just have to stop conceding the way we have been doing, in order not to have cause to regret this in the long run in the second phase,” he added.
Adebayo said the players will not get carried away with the two wins recorded.
He said, “Niger United will not get carried away with this, we still have more games to play and I’m confident we will improve more. The next assignment is to dismantle Kano Pillars tomorrow (Thursday) after we drew against them in the first phase,” he added.
