An all round dominant performance from the Super Falcons ensured that Nigeria will be represented at the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations Championship (AWCON) in Ghana.
Just like the early goal in Gambia which gave the Super Falcons a slim advantage coming into the second leg in Agege, the reigning AWCON Champions took the lead in the third minute through Desire Oparanozie who converted from the spot after ex-Atletico Madrid player, Francisca Ordega was fouled.
Oparanozie will then go on to score three more goals to take her total tally in the game to four goals. “The coaches told me what to do and where to be at the right time. It worked and you all (journalists) could see that too,” she said after an impressive performance.
On defending the possibility of defending the title in Ghana “why not, why not;” the Falcons striker said. “Everything is progressing and we are working hard. Although it is going to be competitive, but we will see about that,” she added.
Also putting up impressive performances on the evening were the duo of Francisca Ordega and reigning female African player of the year, Asisat Oshoala who tormented the Gambian defence from the flanks and attacked with lightening speed whenever the Falcons were on the front foot. Little wonder Oshoala also got on the scoresheet with two well taken goals in both halves to her name.
Having qualified for the eleventh edition of the continental showpiece, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will know their opponents when the group stage draws are done as they hope to successfully defend their AWCON title.
