Nigeria U23 midfielder Okechukwu Azubuike is set to undergo medicals at Turkish Super Lig side Istanbul Başakşehir ahead of a proposed move from Egyptian side Pyramids, reports www.aclsports.com
Azubuike is expected to end his holidays in Nigeria on Friday and fly straight to Istanbul for his medical examination ahead of a 12-month loan move, with an option to signing permanently.
Azubuike, 22, had a stellar second half of last season, on loan with Çaykur Rizespor and has been on the wish list of top Turkish clubs since the start of the summer.
Başakşehir who finished second in the league last season have now beaten other Istanbul rivals Besiktas and Galatasaray to the signature of the Nigerian Under 23 captain.
After weeks of negotiations with Pyramids, the Egyptian side eventually agreed the loan fee with Başakşehir on Wednesday, same day that Galatasaray attempted to snatch the former Bayelsa United midfielder from under the noses of their city rivals.
At Başakşehir, Azubuike will reunite with his head coach at Çaykur Rizespor last season, Okan Buruk. The club will play in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League.
