Spanish giants, Barcelona are set to strengthen their options in midfield after completing a deal for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder, Paulinho, according to his manager, Luis Felipe Scolari.
The former Tottenham of England player, who plays for Chinese Super League outfit, Guangzhou Ever grande moves to the Catalan side after the club activated his release clause.
“Paulinho is a player with high individual quality,” Scolari, Paulinho’s manager at Evergrande, said. “He’s an outstanding player, both for his club and for the national team. The high price paid by Barcelona in order to sign him is a strong recognition of Guangzhou Evergrande football club. We wish him all the best and that he can embrace a bright future,” he added.
Paulinho’s release clause is reportedly €40million and has been activated by Barca, after both parties failed to reach an agreement for his transfer fee.
The 29-year-old had a really bad spell at Spurs, where he spent two years before moving to China, where he became an important part of the Evergrande side that won back-to-back league titles and also the Asian Champions League.
His impressive form in China has also seen Paulinho earn a recall to the Selecao.
