The Russian Football Union (RFU) on Wednesday revoked the license of FC Amkar Perm for the upcoming 2018/2019 football season after the club was found incapable of providing financial guarantees ahead of the next football season.
Amkar Perm’s license revoke comes after a season of hardship in Russia’s top flight. Although they finished in 13th spot, it was through a year of battling to settle many of the team’s assets and liabilities and the RFU have revoked their license after weeks of inquest.
Of the sixteen teams that featured in 2017/18 Russian Premier League season, two will not participate next season as Amkar Perm join FC Tosno (the Russian cup winners) on the scraphead following the chronic financial problems bedeviling the league.
“Due to insufficient financial guarantees and significant overdue debts, it was decided to revoke the license from the Amkar football club (Perm) for the sports season 2018-2019,” the head of the RFU licensing department Evgeniy Alexandrovich Letin told the league website on Wednesday.
Amkar Perm, it is reported, will now participate in the third tier division of Russian league football next season.
“Today in Moscow, a meeting of the RFU Commission on the licensing of football clubs was held. Following the meeting, the Commission revoked the license from FC “Amkar” for the season-2018/19. Thus, our Club lost the opportunity to participate in the Russian Football Championship next season,” read a club statement on their official website.
“In connection with the revocation of the license on Monday, June 18th, the board of PA “Amkar” will convene to analyze the situation and make a decision on the expediency of continuing the activities of the Club.
“In the event of a decision to terminate the activity, the matter will be submitted to the general meeting of the members of the organization,” added the statement.
Nigerian stars Brian Idowu and Aaron Samuel played for the club in the just concluded 2017/18 season.
