Tommer Hemed scored the only goal, as Brighton beat Newcastle United in their first-ever top-flight meeting at the Amex stadium on Sunday.

Hemed scored the only goal of the game in the second half to earn Brighton back-to-back victories in the Premier League.

The home started the brightest, and were in control of proceedings, but it was the Magpies who had the best chance of the half.

Around the half hour mark, Joselu nearly broke the deadlock, but was only able to blaze his effort well wide from inside the box, as the half ended with nothing to separate both sides.

After the break, the hosts started as they did the first and six minutes in, they found a breakthrough as Hemed put them 1-0 up.

A cross from Pascal Gross found Dale Stepehens, whose header met Hemed, who fired the home side to the lead with a first-time effort.

The Seagulls almost doubled the lead few minutes later, but Elliot was alert in goal for Newcastle to deny March.

Rafa Benitez sent in Jonjo Shelvey, who hit the post after coming on, and Dwight Gayle for the final 20 minutes, in his bid to salvage something from the game, but the home side held on for their second win of the season, which sees them move up to 13th on the league table.
