CAF on Friday announced the cash rewards for participating teams in the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) and CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC), www.aclsports.com reports.
In a statement on the CAF website, the football governing body announced that the Clubs participating in the Preliminary Stages of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will receive $50,000 each.
This is the first time CAF has offered financial assistance to Clubs at this stage of the Competition. Previously, Clubs needed to reach the Group Stages to be eligible to share the overall prize money.
The latest development is in line with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s promise to improve club Competitions and provide more financial assistance to participating Clubs.
Nigerian league champions Rangers International and Remo Stars will play in the Champions League, while Enyimba and Elkanemi Warriors will represent Nigeria in the Confederation Cup.
In the last two years, the CAF Executive has significantly increased investment in African Club Football: the CAF Champions League winner now gets $4,000, 000 – an increase from the $2,500,000 that Wydad Casablanca received for winning the 2022 final. In the CAF Confederation Cup, the prize money for the winner was increased from $1,250,000 to $2,000,000 while the beaten finalist will earn $1,000,000.
Additionally, clubs, including Enyimba, benefited from the Financial injection from the African Football League that offered a total prize money of $8,000,000.
