The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected a complete cast of Algerian match officials for Sunday’s decisive CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) group stage game between Rivers United (Nigeria) and Dreams FC (Ghana), www.aclsports.com reports.
Rivers United and Dreams FC have a straight forward battle at the Nest of Champions, Uyo to determine which team qualifies for the quarter final stage of Africa’s second Club football competition, the Confederation Cup. Algerian referee Youcef Gamouh will be the centre referee for the game.
Gamouh will be assisted by his compatriots Mokrane Gourari (Assistant Referee 1) and Hamza Bouzit (Assistant Referee 2) while Loutfi Bekouassa will be the fourth official for the game. In other appointments, Mr Ali Mwebe from Uganda will serve as the game’s General Coordinator while Oluchi Tobe-Chukwu, the current Media Officer of Nigeria’s Super Falcons will serve as the match’s Media Officer.
Dreams FC of Ghana currently lead the way in Group C with twelve points from four matches while Rivers United are 3rd on the group standings with nine points from same number of matches. The intrigues in the game is however such that a 1-0 win for the Nigerians can see them progress at the expense of their opponents.
Sunday’s game is also of huge significance for Nigeria’s coefficient rankings in CAF’s Inter Club competitions as any sort of failure by Rivers United may mean that Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)’s four slots is halved by next season’s Inter Club competition.
In the group’s other game, Tunisian side Club Africain will host group’s whipping boys Academica de Lobito of Angola. A win for CA (as expected) will see the Tunisians top the group because of their superior head to head advantage over both Rivers United and Dreams FC.
The match between Rivers United and Dreams FC billed for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium (aka Nest of Champions) is scheduled for Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 5pm Nigerian time.
