Nigerian striker Tosin Omoyele scored his first goal for new club CS Constantine to help them beat Police of Rwanda 2-0 in their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round first leg clash on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Former Enyimba man, who just moved to the Algerian Ligue 1 side after leaving USM Khenchela, scored the game’s second goal after skipper Brahim Dib had given the Algerians the lead in first-stoppage time from the penalty spot to see out the win.
In the game decided at Stade Chahid Hamlaoui in Constantine, the visiting Police FC side started with former Rangers attacker Elijah Ani leading the line for them, while Omoyele began on the bench following the confirmation of his transfer to the team just days ago.
As expected though, the home side started the game well, putting the visitors under intense pressure in the opening half hour of the game. However, the Rwandans held their own with goalkeeper Onésime Rukundo making a couple of decent saves to keep them in the game.
In first-half stoppage time, the break would eventually come for the home side when a Police FC defender was adjudged to have infringed in the area. Skipper Brahim stepped up and coolly converted to hand the home side the lead at the break.
After the interval, Constantine tried to get more goals but they found the visitors’ defence difficult to break down. However, Omoyele was introduced with the game still unchanged and he produced a deft finish with 11 minutes from time to make the lead comfortable for Constantine ahead of the second leg.
The former Plateau United striker, who scored 9 goals for Khenchela last campaign, has started life in Constantine on a good note and will be keen to do better than last season’s return.
Meanwhile, Omoyele and Constantine will be in Rwanda for the second leg next weekend as they look to reach the final preliminary round where Nsoatreman FC (Ghana) or Elect-Sport FC (Chad) will be waiting.
