The Home-based Super Eagles, kicked off their preparations ahead of the final qualification round tie for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Ghana in Abuja, www.aclsports.com reports.
The coach Austin Eguavoen-led team began camp on Tuesday, where 35 players turned up for the first stage of camping ahead of the doubleheader with the West African side.
Having spent three days in the national team camp, players have been released to go and represent their respective club sides in this weekend’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) games. It is expected that the team will reconvene again next week for the continuation of their preparations.
Speaking to pressmen after the team’s training session on Thursday, Eguavoen said: “We are going to work hard. It is a two-legged tie, so, come December, we will try and make sure we get the CHAN ticket. The objective is to qualify for the competition first and we will do everything we can to get past this hurdle.”
The coach also confirmed that changes will be made to the team and that he will keep extending invitations to players in the league to build a formidable team ahead of the tie.
Ghana will host the first leg of the qualifier on the weekend of 20-22 December before the Nigerians will host the second leg a week later.
The winner of the match-up on aggregate will qualify for the African Nations Championship billed to be held in East Africa – Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda – in February 2025.
