Nigeria’s Chris Udah has won the 2023 Rwandan Volleyball League Serie A with Gisagara Volleyball Club.
Gisagara VC defeated Police Volleyball Club, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Armee Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) in the playoff held at the BK Arena over the weekend.
Gisagara VC won the title with 42 points, six ahead of Armee Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) and Police VC who are second and third respectively. Gisagara VC will represent Rwanda in the African Club Championship next year.
An elated Chris Udah told www.aclsports.com that winning the league in his second season feels great.
The former Nigeria Customs Service player recalled that Gisagara VC lost the trophy last season with a set adding that the Rwandan League is competitive.
He said, “I feel very excited and great coming all the way from Nigeria to lift the Rwandan Volleyball Premier League. It has been a tough journey since we started the league in March till November but the team achieved their aim.
“The Rwandan Volleyball League is competitive, every team wanted the trophy but at the end of the day Gisagara emerged champions”.
“This is my second trophy with the team. I signed for Gisagara Volleyball Club in December 2022 when the season was rounding up. I came with some few matches and my team lost the league with a set; the team wanted me to stay and signed me for another season to start the full season” the former Nigeria U17 player told www.aclsports.com
“I thank God I have won two trophies with the club namely; the 2023 Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT) and the Premier League. I think it is a big boost for me, we still have another Cup to play this weekend and hopefully we see how it will turn out”.
The former Nigeria U21 player believes Nigeria players can excel in the league and improve themselves based on the facilities available in Rwanda.
He said, “The league is very competitive with a lot of tall players and almost all the teams are strong; my performance also spoke for the team. I think it will be a good thing to have more Nigerians in the Rwandan League because they have a high level of competitiveness that will improve the players’ performances.
“I will advise Nigeria players to grab any opportunity of playing here; they have a lot of African players in the league. Rwanda has good facilities and structure for volleyball; they have one of the best Arena in Africa and I have been able to speak for Nigerians. I am looking forward to seeing more Nigerians in the Rwandan Volleyball Premier League”.
