South African giants Kaizer Chiefs have announced that Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will leave the club at the end of June. The announcement was made via the club’s official Twitter handle on Wednesday afternoon.

Akpeyi, 35, was close to agreeing to a new deal with the Soweto club in November 2021; but the sudden turn of events at the club has seen him relegated to the bench since his return from the AFCON in Cameroon.
The former Warri Wolves goalkeeper joined Chiefs from Chippa United in January 2019 as a short-term solution to cover for the injured Itumeleng Khune, and the Super Eagles shot-stopper impressed immediately. However, the rise of Bruce Bvuma and the acquisition of Brandon Peterson limited his chances at the club in the second half of the just-concluded season.
Akpeyi made 69 appearances for Chiefs, keeping 27 clean sheets in the process, and last played for Amakhosi in the 2-0 league win over Maritzburg United in December 2021.
