Domestic football continued across Europe at the weekend with the trio of Alex Iwobi, Samuel Kalu and Paul Onuachu the standout Super Eagles players.
Eagles in Europe, EiE, reviews their performances ahead of their first international break for Nigeria since 2019.
For the first time in over a year, Iwobi was involved in a goal for Everton after coming off the bench to help the Toffees maintain their 100% start to the season with a comfortable 4-2 home win over Brighton.
He finished the game with two chances created and one key pass in his third PL game of the season.
The playmaker replaced Brazilian star, Richarlison on 25 minutes but had to wait until seven minutes into the second half to set up another South American, James Rodriguez to double Everton’s lead on 52 minutes.
Iwobi was once again involved in the build up to Everton’s fourth of the day after he set up Abdoulaye Dacoure, who found Rodriguez with the Colombian making no mistakes from close range.
Still in the PL, Kelechi Iheanacho and Leicester City suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham United with Iheanacho playing for 26 minutes.
The Foxes were without their Nigerian defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, who is still injured.
Semi Ajayi was another Super Eagle to suffer a loss in the PL as West Bromwich Albion lost 2-0 at Southampton with Ajayi on from start to finish.
Ola Aina also lost in the PL at the weekend after the on loan defender and Fulham 1-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday.
Aina completed the most tackles (2), made one interception and created a chance and key pass in what was his PL debut for Fulham.
In the Championship, William Troost-Ekong was a spectator as Watford lost narrowly to Reading 1-0. Troost-Ekong recently joined the Hornets in a surprised move last week from Udinese.
In France, Samuel Kaul seems to be enjoying his best start to the season after another goal scoring performance for Bordeaux in the Ligue 1.

Kalu scored the second goal for his side in a 3-0 thrashing of Dijon on Sunday, it was his second of the season in his sixth game. He played for 77 minutes before he was substituted.
A day earlier, Moses Simon couldn’t help Nantes as they lost 2-1 at Nice. He was on the pitch for 69 minutes.
For LaLiga duo of Samuel Chukwueze and Ramon Azeez, it was a winless weekend as well as they shared the spoils with Atletico Madrid and Cadiz respectively.
Chukwueze’s Villarreal held Atletic to a goalless draw with the winger playing for 18 minutes after coming on as a substitute, while Azeez was an unused substitute in Granada’s 1-1 draw.
Meanwhile, one Super Eagles player who seems to be soaring higher this season is Paul Onuachu, who proved once again why he was chosen to replace the injured Victor Osimhen ahead of the double-header friendlies in Austria.
