Ashley Barnes gave the Cherries a shock first half lead, before Sergio Aguero scored two quick goals in the second half to turn the game in City’s favour.

Leroy Sane added a third in the 71st minute to put the game beyond their visitors, with Bernardo Silva getting in on the act eight minutes from time to complete the turn around for Pep Guardiola’s side.

For Burnley, their cup run comes to an end, while the Cityzens march on to the next round, as they turn attention to the Carabao Cup against Bristol City on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Watford returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 demolition of Bristol City at Vicarage Road.

Andre Carrillo, Troy Deeney and Etienne Capoue were all on target for Marco Silva’s side.

Stoke City was the only Premier League side to lose a game, after a 2-1 defeat at Coventry City.

Jordan Willis put City ahead, but Charlie Adam equalised for Stoke via a spot kick. However, Jack Grimmer ensured there won’t be a replay when he scored what turned out the winner for the home side just after the hour mark.

Newcastle United were 3-1 winners over Luton Town, while Southampton defeated Fulham by 1-0.

There were also wins for Huddersfield, West Brom Albion, while Swansea and Bournemouth were held to draws by Wolverhampton and Wigan Athletic respectively.
