Super Eagles midfielder Peter Oghenekaro Etebo has provided his English side Stoke City with some boost as he is set to return when they face Derby County in a SkyBet Championship game at Pride Park on Wednesday.
Etebo who scored his first goal for the Potters penultimate weekend against Nottingham Forest was missing when Nathan Jones’ side held Queens Park Rangers to a 0-0 draw at Loftus Road on Saturday.
“We have a few war wounds so we will have to evaluate them right until the last minute.
“Peter is one of those we are keeping an eye on at the minute, but I can assure you that if he isn’t fully right then we certainly won’t take any risks,” said Jones on Friday afternoon.
The energetic midfielder missed the game with a groin complaint but should now be available for Wednesday’s trip to Derby after taking full part in Monday’s training session at Stoke City’s Clayton Wood training ground.
“New day, new week. Good to start the week strongly with a good session,” Etebo wrote on his verified Twitter handle on Monday afternoon.
News of the 23-year old’s return to fitness should serve as a relief to Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr who has named him among the twenty-three invited players for next week’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) dead rubber qualification match against Seychelles in Asaba, Nigeria.
