Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o has promised to come to the rescue of former Indomitable Lions captain Norbert Owona, who is currently hospitalised with inguinal hernia.
Owona is also homeless after losing his house due to mortgage issues, according his family.
Eto’o, while speaking to a local TV reporter, said he was aware of the gravity of Owona’s situation after visiting him in a Douala hospital and that he was ‘greatly affected’. He said he would take care of the 67-year-old’s treatment and other hospital bills.
Additionally, Eto’o promised to offer Owona a new house once he is discharged from hospital.
Owona played for Cameroon in the 1960s and 1970s, scoring against Nigeria during the 1970 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
Owana’s situation was the focus of a television documentary that aired nationwide in Cameroon last month.
Eto’o recently signed for Qatar SC, his 13th professional club.
