The race for who wins the 2020 Eunisell Boot Award in the NPFL is getting more interesting with Israel Abia leading the pack.
Abia is sitting comfortably at the top of the goals’ chart with six goals in eight matches played so far in the 2019/2020 NPFL season.
The Sunshine Stars star striker netted his sixth goal of the new campaign on Sunday as Sunshine registered another impressive victory.
The Akure-based side defeated newly promoted Adamawa United 0-3 away from home with Abia on target once again.
He opened the scoring against United before goals from Jesus Oguniyi Omo and debutant, Sadeeq Yusuf completed the thrashing for Sunshine at the Pantami Stadium.
That goal took his tally this season to six, but four of those goals were scored in the 4-2 victory over Nasarawa United in Akure the previous Sunday in week 7.

Abia has scored in just three of eight matches for Sunshine this season, and will be hoping to add to that when the Olukoya Boys visit for matchday 9.
Abia must not get too comfortable, though, he is being chased by six other players on four goals led by Lobi Stars’ Sikiru Alimi, and Victor Mboama of Enyimba FC.
Others on four goals are Isaac George (Dakkada), Tasiu Lawal (Katsina United), Ndifreke Effiong (Akwa United), and Ibrahim Mustapha of league leaders, Plateau United.

Elsewhere on the goals chart, four players have scored three goals this season, while eight, including 2019 joint-top scorer and Eunisell Boot Award joint-winner, Mfon Udoh (Akwa United), are on two goals apiece.
The race continues on Wednesday when the NPFL returns for week 9, with Abia and Sunshine Stars at home to MFM FC in the South-West derby.
